Welcome Home...

We were a big family
Sixteen uncles and aunts,
Scores of cousins, hundreds if
You add the second and third degree
And it used to fill
The long tables for Sunday
Night bingo games
Or simple birthday parties
With pineapple juice, egg sandwich and
Spaghetti to dance the night away.
But those were the days
In the Philippines when we
Celebrate new years and Christmas eves
Of wakes, wedding,
birthdays and deaths.

Still they do it without us
And here in the so called
Land of the free and home of the brave
We started to do it
They say when I returned home
The prodigal son,
As if I never was gone
For a long while
But they welcome
him unlike the so called
comrades who labeled him as a heel
Who threw him away
Like a used rag
But has no regrets
The work has been done
And it can never be erased
By the god dammed revisionist
because it was history

He knows the masses
here or there,
Will never forget
And they will always
Welcome him home
To help them
liberate themselves
